ADR 0011: Symphony describes orbit-rs with the orbit-rs wording
Status: Accepted Date: 2026-10-24 Scope: Symphony Deciders: Ravindra Boddipalli
Context
Symphony documents (DATA_DURABILITY.md, ORM_AND_DATA_LAYER.md, STATUS_AND_GAPS.md, TESTING.md) describe orbit-rs in their own words, including results measured only on Symphony’s own SQL. ADR 0001 and ADR 0008 set the position and the way to state it.
Decision
Symphony states orbit-rs’s goal and progress only in the orbit-rs wording, and states Symphony’s own results as what they are:
- Goal: orbit-rs’s goal is full compatibility with PostgreSQL 18, measured against the PostgreSQL 18 conformance corpus.
- Progress: the corpus pass rate with its date, as published in orbit-rs’s conformance plan.
- Symphony’s own results (install plan, flow cases, recorded-SQL replay) are described as “Symphony’s SQL”, never as general PostgreSQL compatibility.
Consequences
- When orbit-rs’s figure changes, Symphony documents that quote it are updated; they link to the source instead of copying more than the headline number.
Canonical wording
orbit-rs’s goal is full compatibility with PostgreSQL 18. Symphony’s install plan and flow cases pass on it; that covers the SQL Symphony sends, not general compatibility.
Verification
make adr-check rejects retired wording; review the orbit-rs figure at each orbit-rs conformance update.
