Provider: Meta

Meta Model API serves Meta’s Muse models over an OpenAI-compatible endpoint at https://api.meta.ai/v1.

Get an API Key

1. Log in to the Model API dashboard at dev.meta.ai
2. Open the API keys tab and click Create API key
3. Copy it immediately — Meta shows it once. Keys look like LLM|<id>|<secret>

Configure VibeCody

Option 1: Encrypted store (recommended)

The key is stored encrypted in ~/.vibecli/profile_settings.db, not in any plaintext file. See Secure settings storage.

Option 2: Environment variable

Meta’s own SDKs read MODEL_API_KEY. VibeCody deliberately uses META_API_KEY so it does not pick up an unrelated variable of that generic name.

Option 3: Config file (~/.vibecli/config.toml)

Prefer option 1 or 2 for the key itself. In VibeCoder, the key field is under Settings → Configuration → Keys, and Meta appears in the toolbar model dropdown once a key is set.

Model Selection

Default: muse-spark-1.3. Meta lists a 1,048,576-token context for each.

Left out on purpose:

• -contributor variants (muse-spark-1.3-contributor, …) — cheaper, in exchange for possible use of your content for training. Type the id into the model box if you want it; the picker will not offer it by default.
• muse-image-1.0, muse-voice-transcribe-1.0, sam-3.1 — not chat models.

The table is what VibeCody ships as picker defaults, checked against Meta’s models page on 2026-10-15, not a live query. GET https://api.meta.ai/v1/models is the authority for your account.

Troubleshooting

Meta API key not set (META_API_KEY)

No key reached the provider. Check vibecli list-keys shows meta, or that META_API_KEY is exported in the shell that launched VibeCody.

401

The key is present but rejected. Confirm you copied the whole LLM|<id>|<secret> string, including the pipes.

Anthropic-format clients

Meta also exposes a Messages-API surface at https://api.meta.ai for Anthropic-format tools. VibeCody uses the OpenAI-compatible /v1 path only.
